low oil pressure?

Post by jimador48 »

Recently I got my 97 safari running again ( bad fuel pump ) after a year of sitting in the driveway.

After that I did an oil change right away with 10w-30 ( 123xxx miles ), now my idle oil pressure gauge goes down to about 20 and once I accelerate it goes up to 40 and freeway speeds its at 60

Now my question is this normal?

I cant remember what my old readings were before I let the van sit there.

Your oil pressure was probably the same. 20 at idle is fine. No worries.

Just a quick question, what type of oil did you use for your oil change? The reason I asked is when I changed to Mobil1 synthetic & a Mobil1 filter, my oil pressure went down just about to where your is now. I was initially worried, so I closely watched my oil pressure for several months & all seems ok. :supz:

I used autozone brand 10w-30 because of the mileage, that was about 80 miles ago and ill be changing it today with some conventional 10w-30 from valvoline and a ACdelco filter.

I was concerned with the cleaning agents in the synthetic blends so I got a jug of conventional 5qts.

Yea I was confused and scared since it was slowly dropping to 20-25 during idle but it has the same amount of oil since the oil change

My van has only 70K on it so I went with the synthetic, for the last 4 mileage checks I picked up 1.8mpg, it may just be I have been watching my driving habits a little closer. :supz: Good luck on your trip.
