Window/portable AC unit for an Astro van?
Curious if anyone has added some type of AC unit to their vans? Some places I'd like to visit in the south that might be pretty warm at night. An AC option would be nice. Something I could run on a 2000 watt generator or a parks power. Considered window unit (saw someone here had one mounted in a box) or the true "portables"... Any thought short of a roof top RV unit?

That a great idea but the van is really my daily driver and I only have about 2" of clearance under my garage door and about 4" at at my office parking spot. Why I only can do a 2" lift and had to be conservative in tire choice.doyoulikeithere wrote:Darn, I Was just gonna suggest a rooftop RV Unit, #-o

I have found a few "portable" AC units that might work pretty well too. I have some spare floor space and they aren't that big, just need to rig a 4" exhaust port.

Like the idea of something outside the van because the noise might be an issue inside. Have to listen to one of those portables before I buy it!

When i found myself stranded in FL. helping some family i removed the rear window on one of the barn doors and hung a small window unit in its place.
I used it mostly when parked in the yard, but also ran it on a small generator.

91 Astro EXT; never liked GM till i stumbled into this van. Free just for dragging it out of a field. Ran like a scalded cat, had 53K miles and completely rusted out brake lines. Been all over North America, lots of fire roads and no roads; fully loaded and towing constantly. Average 21 mpg. I recently (by accident) found out she now has 265,886.4 miles without so much as a tuneup, and only 1 oil change. And still no leaks. MAN I LOVE THIS VAN !

Oops . Got hungry and computer went to sleep on me.
I later fab'd a flexible duct to sit the A/C unit on top or strapped to the bumper and run the duct in the small sliding window the bear broke out the summer before.
