Drivetrain binding in tight turns
Had a problem with the drive train on my 2000 Safari binding in tight turns. Went on-line and most common diagnosis was break-down of transfer case fluid which was causing drag within transfer case. Replaced with Trac 2 fluid and it improved but only for awhile. Wasn't until winter when the AWD light came on that I discovered the problem was actually the transfer case emulator failing in a partly engaged position creating drag between front and rear axles. Replaced emulator and all is well!

Glad you got it fixed. The encoder motor is the most common failure of the NV136 transfer case. Makes most of wonder why they went away from the BW4472 which very rarely failed!
