Well, gonna attempt cleaning my front abs sensors tomorrow!

Post by sidecar53 »

I've had my abs kicking on at low speed for a few months now and it seems to be getting worse. Did a little searching and reading on the subject but I'd like to hear from the experts or anyone who's done this in the past. I've got around 4 hours to get this done- am I being realistic?? Any tips from the gurus here? Thanks for the read and hopefully the responses. :canuk:

Any brake or abs lights on?

That's a good place to start, you might as well test with a multimeter while you're there and it's possible the reluctor ring in a hub could be bad and/or ebcm solder joints need to be repaired.
You can test the front wheel speed sensors at the connectors while spinning the wheel (180-250 millivolts) and resistance (600-2400 ohms).

I need to do that myself, abs light comes and goes, scanner shows right front wheel speed sensor, I did reach up in there and fiddle with the connection on the frame, that stopped it for awhile, but am also having the low speed no brake thing also

No lights on, but the abs groans and slips at low speed. Tried to get at it today, but I don't have the proper size torx to remove the calipers. Anyone know what size it is so I can go pick one up and try again next weekend (time's tight)? I'm just gonna pull the abs fuse for now and get used to the lights being on. Unsafe the other way. Thanks.

I think I have issues with both the ecbm and the sensors....I have unsuccessfully attempted to fix my sensor issue, so please provide some details on what exactly you did, as I did not have the time to properly attack the problem.

I agree on T55, otherwise T50 but think 55 is correct.

Thanks, Stroverlander and Wiley. Got new front hubs ordered while I was at it. Might as well do it right.

Good luck, I am eagerly awaiting results as I wont pass my inspection with these brake issues.

Success!!!! 3 and 1/2 hours of toiling in the hot sun with an impact wrench and some liquid wrench and I got the front hubs replaced with aftermarket ones from Autoparts Warehouse ($55 apiece). Everything was rusted and seized and took considerable effort, but it was all worth it. The ABS system works like brand new after replacing the fuse- no slipping and no dash lights and the steering seems a bit better (tighter) as well as some of the noises I'd hear going over bumps are gone. Not something I'd want to do again, but, for the $160 all told including shipping, I save a bundle of cash doing it myself. =D> :canuk: =D>
