Tires for the Safari

Post by johndub356 »

Hello! My name is John and I am new to the site.

I just finished posting some brief info in the new members forum.

My question today is:

We drive a 97 Auto Form High Top Conversion and we are about ready for some new tires.

We do mostly around town driving with the occasional three hour trip to the lake.

Which brand and model of tire would you guys recommend for the way that we use our Safari?

What gives a comfortable ride?

Thanks for your input!

Thanks! I was wondering if Michelin might be a good choice.

I can't really recommend a brand; I've run Goodyears, Pirellis and Wal Mart brand with reasonable success. My suggestion though is to go with LT tires vs. P. I too have a high-top and found it was a bit wallowy with the stock P-metrics. (LTs didn't cure it, but helped. I also went to KYB gas shocks and wasn't impressed; Bilsteins next time!)

I have Cooper LT tires; I second the LT vs P tires. P(assenger) tires wear out much too soon.

I use Rancho 5000 shocks on all four corners, but with the power scooter lift on the back, the van squats. Sadly, the additional weight is also tearing apart the rear of the van (not the rear end).
