Hello! My name is John, and my wife Danna and I purchased a 1997 GMC Safari Auto Form High Top Conversion last year.
It has the 4.3 Vortec and a four speed transmission (not sure about exact specs on the transmission).
We love the van! We refer to it affectionately as "the bus" which we use to haul around our two year old (and one on the way).
I'm looking forward to learning all that I can about these vans.
We bought it in Hampton, VA (where we live) from a retired Air Force LT Colonel that we have developed a great relationship with. He described himself as a "maintenance junkie" and I have the records to prove it! He took great care of "the bus" and set us up well.
It has just over 170k and runs great (we had a few minor things done to keep it running great). I'm excited for many more years to come.

Welcome John! Sounds like you picked up a great van! With normal maintenance, your van should have a lot of life left in it.

With a little care they last a long time. Mine is a 96 Safari. 164,000 and still runs great.
