As soon as that part throttle bucking starts or about 80k to 100k miles, check that gear.
Dang, there needs to be a list of what needs to be done to these things and when. It wasn't that long ago I had the intake manifold off, would have been a great time to replace the dist. gear had I heard of that issue. I guess it's not all that hard to get to. No bucking, what do you look for? Excessive play?

To check for excessive play in the distributor gear, you just have to pull the cap. They started using a harder metal on the replacements so it doesn't wear like the originals. You only have to pull the distributor if you are going to replace the gear. Funny thing is that you can get a complete new billet aluminum distributor including the cap/rotor for about $50 from Skip White Performance(either their site or ebay).

Day tripped to Lebanon Valley Drag Strip to watch my friend race his 11 sec. Vega. 208 mile round trip. 16mpg running 73mph with ac on. Van ran great except for the ac that switches to defrost mode going up every hill. And with a 1700' elevation change there was a lot of that!

sounds like some new vacuum lines in your future!

I changed out the idlers today, took it on a 4x4 test drive; no more pulley to cross link contact under torque. Probably was the problem all along but the motor mounts were worn so that job wasn't completely in vain.

Yup sounds like I'm redoing the vac system. Kinda waiting on a reply for a list of materials. Glad your rubbing issue has been solved. I'm kinda in the same boat sept backwards. I changed my idlers and still have a minor rub under max load so I guess it's motor mount time!
I really don't want to do them only because I'm pm'ing for mounts and exhaust manifolds for the 5.7 swap.

I gently put my front bumper up against a cement post in the parkin lot behind work.
Then I gave it some gas and slipped the clutch out till a healthy cloud of smoke formed off the rear wheels ;)
Made a bit of noise, lol, people looked at me like wtf !?!?!? Ahhhh.
Then I went back in from my lunch break. ha ha.

Put gas in it. Maybe I'll wash it later. I need to do the brakes very soon.
