2nd and 3rd row seat (Puzzling question from new member)

Post by jolly roger »

Greetings all,
I've been lurking and now I have a mystery (to me) on seating that perhaps longtime AstroFaris can sort out for me.
My 2002 rear drive Safari has a 2nd row bench seat that is adjustable and has the passenger side armrest while the 3rd row is stationary with no armrest.
My 2003 Astro has the 2nd row bench seat that is non adjustable with passenger side armrest,
and the 3rd row bench is adjustable with no armrest.
Trying to figure out if they are in the proper locations for the model years or if somewhere down the line they were taken out and reinstalled in the wrong locations.
Or could someone have switched the seatbacks on the seats in one of the vehicles?
Thanks in advance for help from the collective. :supz:

can't say for sure but more than likely they were reinstalled backwards

It seems the middle bench is slightly shorter than the rear to allow passage past it to get to the rear

I know for a fact that either bench will lock into either location. I swapped them around several times early in my camper build when I was making measurements regarding space between the middle row and front row. (Found I could get more room by using the sliding bench in the middle and pushing it full-aft.) All of this was before I drilled holes and bolted a conversion-van bench into an in-between location, obviously.

Absence of a right-side armrest for a middle row may have been made to make it easier for passengers to scoot by into the 3rd row, but it might also have been trim related. (Most of the "clearance" past the 2nd row is provided by the fact that it's offset to the driver's side by several inches.)

Also, on my 2003, I believe one bench had the LATCH anchors and one did not, though I'd have to go out to the garage and check to see which was which.

The middle row will have the latch for the passenger side seat belt. See pictures https://sites.google.com/site/astrosafa ... or/seating

The problem is that if you didn't buy it new, someone could have changed them out/swapped them around.
