DIY sand ladders using Lynx levelers

Post by Astrophysics »

Hi,

For traction in sand etc, the off readers use Max Trac or equivalent sand ladders.
For fun I took the Lynx levelers from our trailer and bolted them together with 3/8 X 2 1/2" long he's bolts , flat washers and nylon lock nuts.
6 levelers on lower row, and 5 on top. Cost to make 2 is about $120 in materials. Weighs 10mlbs per leveler vs about 8 lbs for Aussie made Max Trac.
Max Trac list price $299.

May try them out in desert.

Let us know how it goes.

I've got TRED mats, but I also have a set of "flexible" mats for snow extraction. They're made from hinged plastic plates. I was always curious if they'd work for sand, too. The nice thing is that they store "folded", so I thought I might be able to use them for leveling too (by unfolding them part-way to make a stepped stack, like with the leveling blocks.).

Hi,

I just saw the SEMA show web site showing the Aussie Maxtrax Extreme version where they added E metal (aluminum albeit) studs to there Trax. Wow, I should have applied for a patent.

I attached some rope to mine to make sling to carry them.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

That trailer looks a lot like my new-to-me one.... is that a Viking or a sun lite, or something different?
