If you jack up the tranny and transfer case you can get the bottom bolt without dropping the cross member. Click here to see the pics of when I swapped my 231 in.

If you look on the donor vehicle's RPO code list on the door jamb or glove box you will see a list of 3 digit codes. The gear ratio codes will be GT5 for 4.10, GT4 for 3.73 and GU6 for 3.42. The only true way to see what gears you are getting is to open the diff up and look at the ring gear as it will have the number of teeth stamped into it. To find the ratio just divide the number of ring gear teeth by the number of pinion teeth. Example: 41 ring teeth and 10 pinion teeth is a 4.10:1 ratio.

The easiest installation will be to swap in the same gear ratio front diff, but if you are collecting parts for a future swap I highly recommend 4.10's for towing. You will have to either find an Astro or Safari rear diff with 4.10's or rebuild yours with the 4.10's. If you are gonna stay running the stock diameter tires, you can go with 3.73's as well.
