Re: Would the owner of this van.......
Broken band in the 700R4, or the seal for the piston is toast/pin is trashed somehow. Bet on it. If you wanted to do a ghetto rebuild it probably wouldn't be too bad, you could probably get it going for less than $50 if it hasn't sent a ton of junk through the transmission.BLAZER wrote:please come get it out of my drive,...or should it say, "gary, come get your junker out of my yard"!![]()

I talked to Gary and offered/dealed in retrieving this V8 van for old yellar swap in order to help cut about 8 hrs off his trip. Overall in okay condition, just no 2nd, 4th, or reverse...oh, yeah, fun unloading it off trailer. Once it starts, it sounds pretty healthy, besides running too fast.
I wished I would have taken pics of it on trailer, I only had 1/2" clearance on each side of rails. I drove 246 miles one way, farily uneventful, just had to stop every 100-150 miles and put air in one of the trailer tires.
Oh, and when you see the signs "bridge freezes over" and the conditions are right for them to do it, Take head. I ended up coming off an overpass bridge at about 70 mph a quarter sideways with the trailer, thankfully empty, pushing me. Ever heard the song "Jesus take the wheel" ? Well, he was driving that instant cause when it corrected, it was as smooth as butter, I was thinking I was going to go into a roll over with my lifted Tahoe, but come right around. I had the poop my pants and pucker factor all in the same instance! [-o< [-o< Trip was fine on ay back, ran about 60 mph the whole way, and this astro followed me the whole way home.....![]()
Gary may be picking up a van without a motor.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Re: Would the owner of this van.......
I now think machines do have feelings and are just like old Christine(excuse the spelling)the car in the movie. My 1994 LT has done everything it can to prevent me from going to pick up my V8 donor van.Yes,I canceled my trip this Sunday to Blazer's house to pick it up again. This time the van developed two days ago pulling very hard to the right without applying the brakes at all.Hard enough that it took 1/4 turn of the steering wheel to keep it going straight. This would happen when I first got in it in the morning.Once I drove it and parked it-it would go away.No vibes and you could let go of the steering wheel and the LT would go straight.Well this morning I took it to my friends repair shop and we took it for a test drive. We both thought it was a brake hanging up and during the test drive put the brakes on and sure enough it would slightly want to go left.Still no vibes and would go straight once letting go of the steering wheel.Well we put it on the lift and found the rear drivers brake tight and the e-brake slightly hung up.While on the lift,we checked the idler arms and tie rods.Man-the drivers tie rod was about to fall off and both idler arms are really bad.The passenger side just about to fall off.SCARELY for sure!!!.Sooooooo, now I am repairing that over spending the cash for the trip. Now I started this post by saying this LT is acting like old Christine, well the truth is once Ole Yellar's swap is done,I am going to get rid of the LT.And it seems the LT is going to do whatever it can to prevent that from happen. We'll try again in two wks from today.I have talked Blazer and explained what happened to this try.
Seems the LT loves me more than it love it right now.

Re: Would the owner of this van.......
Sounds like you caught some problems before they got bigger! I was going to suggest checking the brake lines, but if you found and replaced some worn steering components, you probably have found the wandering problem. You will want to go through your new van when you get it so it does not surprise you like this one did. Are you planning to tow it on a car trailer or use a tow dolly? I have towed vans home both ways. I like the trailer method if I have to tow for more than an hour from home. Good luck getting your baby!

Re: Would the owner of this van.......
Gary was planning to rent a dolly one way from the local uhaul near me. I have also towed both ways, pull the red van I bought from skippy 4 hrs from Cleveland on dolly, hauled Gary's van 4 hrs from Indiana. I personally feel safer with trailer, but then you can have the issues with trailer like Dean a while back blowing out a bearing or like me having to stop and air up one tire every 100 miles or so.Rockwerx wrote:Sounds like you caught some problems before they got bigger! Yeah Rocky-I am towing with a tow dolly because I will not tow with a trailer without the electric brakes hooked up.The wt with the van and the trailer almost goes beyond the towing wt for the LT.I have a new in the box brake controler, but I don't want to wire it in the LT when it is really intended to Ole Yellar after the V8 swap.I did tow home Ole Yellar from Bristle Tn with the Lt on a tow dolly.

Gary, I think you're simply cursed. Must be an old Jewish curse created by some Arab somewhere. Maybe you should consider taking up stamp-collecting instead?

Have you crossed a black cat, walked under a ladder, or broke a mirror lately? If not I'm trying to figure out what's in the air lately, lot of folks dealing with BS lately. Of course you know what I'm dealing with.
Good luck as always
