Check out some of the marine a/c units. They're pretty tough, made to go in ALL kinds of weird places, run on 110v (no auto compressor) and start (i think) around 7000BTU and go up from there. Look at West Marine, Boat Stuff and Defender marine.
Good Luck!

yes, that one is ugly...but some of the ones in lowrider magazine are quite nice...of course, when i'm actually looking for them, i can't find pictures of the ones i really like, with chrome ends and flaked paint middle, but here's a heavily airbrushed one...

As we snail along on this of many unfinished mods.
Got this today and was surprised. Most of these from this seller were going from around 60 to 80 bucks. So surprise today when I got a winning email from Ebay saying I won for 38 bucks. Even with shipping added, it's still a deal.

Very cool Larry.I am following this thread because it might answer a cooling issue for Ole Yellar to transport the snack foods over stock.

Very very slow project I know. Peter,,take a break will ya ?

Going to be relocating the battery to the frame or floor support somewhere. Not sure where yet but that's not unusual for me. Got the 1800 watt inverter in and ordered a new battery box which should be in Thursday or Friday.
For anyone thinking about battery move, close as I can figure, if you didn't have the materials and had to buy everything it would probably cost about what this one runs. This is their weld on but also have bolt on. Looks to me like it could be either is why I got this one. Have been wanting to move battery for some time so with the AC install, just as good a time as any I guess.

Hey Larry-just giving you heads up.Lowes around here (and I would think in your area too)is running clearance sales on window A/C's.

Now if ya change your mind about a 110 a/c,here is a source for a rear a/c and other related conversion van parts.

Hey,,thanks Gary.

Nope, won't be changing my mind no matter how much Peter makes fun of the idea. I'm tried of screwing around with auto AC set ups. When this one goes out, I'll just pull the $92.00 unit and throw in another, hook up two wires and rock and roll.

Here's the AC unit,,only about 8 in. tall and maybe a foot wide.
Blows out the top. Almost all of unit will be dropped through floor. Only top inch or two will be above floor level.
Actually, this isn't the exact unit. The one I have is a Comfort Air and has a slide up filter so unit won't have to be removed to change filter. Will run a short sheetmetal duct from front of unit intake curved up to floor and install regular floor vent for intake and may put filter in floor vent. Have to see which is quicker to change, slide up or vent filter.

Ok,,got a little time today since the paint store was out of oil base primer for the kitchen cabinets.lol :yawinkle:

Got a few picks of the very beginning of the battery relocation/AC set up.

Here's the AC unit I'll be dropping through the floor just behind and between the front seats.
As you can see, the air flow is on the top front which will make it much easier to hide.
Image

By/Pass pulley for 89 installed
Will be doing something with all that wiring after I get all the positive wires I had hook up to battery under hood relocated and run.
Image

No more battery under hood,,still more clean up to do.
Image

Location for battery and inverter. Both were a little taller than floor level and have about made up my mind not to cut step to drop both below floor. This area will have a carpeted hinged top to cover both battery and inverter. Gray carpet will also be on inside of slider.
Image

That's it for now,,got to get ready for Gustov in case it makes a turn east.

Scoop is, it's done other than building a carpeted box to cover battery, invertor and AC unit. Works great but will have to change to larger alt. to cover the draw when unit is first turned on.
