Picked up some anti-squeal compound and put it on the back of the brake pads. I also discovered the metal shim on the back on one pads had come loose. Tightened the clips on all of them and put the anti-squeal compound on them. I considered tightening up the clips on the brake pad, but it was blazingly hot and very humid, so I figured the anti-squeal would have to do. So far no squealing.

jim, i'm sorry. i've been too busy with other projects to dive back into the brakes, but so far i've had zero brake noise.

i'm using napa safety stop brake pads and a re-machined set of factory gm rotors.

so far, so good.

one of my co-workers who has wrenched for 40+ years has told me that it is possible to clamp those brake pad ears down with the calipers still installed on the van.

So far the anti-squeal stuff I put on the back of the pads seems to have done the trick. I have only had a couple of squeaks since putting it on, but 99% of the time all it quiet.
