Looks a bunch better Rob. Very hard,as you found out, to spray a metal flake or really any other rattle can paint on an area that large and get and even covering. Even with 50% overlap it will still show a line or two.

Yeah, I learned my lesson on this project, Larry. But, warts and all, it's acceptable and it definitely looks better sitting out in a parking lot than it did before.

Okay, so I didn't really learn my lesson because I decided to strip the paint off of the window frame of the driver's door and repaint it. Once again, this'll be a two tone paint effort as the black trim paint needs to be redone, too.

Here's the paint stripper at work on the window frame part of the driver's door:

The metallic paint reacts fairly quickly to the paint stripper, but the primer underneath takes more time and maybe several applications of the stripper. I use a putty knife and a shop vac to remove the lifted paint, then wash it with soapy water to remove any trace of the stripper.

The black trim paint really gets attacked quickly by the paint stripper, but some of it even managed to fight off the stripper so another application was needed. But I got it all off in the end.

Here's the paint stripper I'm using:

It sure does a number on the paint. It'll also do a number on your skin, if you get any on yourself.

I got the driver's door window frame finished. It took a lot of masking as some of the painting needed to be done on the inside of the door due to rust, so naturally the job took longer than what I thought it would.
The color match isn't the best, neither the blue nor the black trim, but it still looks better than delaminating paint.

Here's the black trim paint I used. The local car parts place told me it's what the body shops use around here. It was supposed to be a perfect match for what the Astro had, but that wasn't the case. The Astro's trim is much glossier than what's in the paint can. It won't matter after I complete all the black trim on the driver's side.

Unfortunately, I doubt that I'll be getting back to working on the Astro today. It'll probably be next weekend before that happens--I should probably change my name to 'SloMoRob'.

Looks great Rob. You know what's going to happen don't you ? You're not going to be able to stop untill your van is completely painted.

Thanks, guys, but I fear that my ambition will run out before the paint cans do.
Maybe I'll just do the driver's side as that's what I usually see the most of. :-k
