You betcha. Again, you need to consider the manifold pressure at WOT. If there is no vacuum, then there is no restriction. It's a V8 throttle body and it's bigger than necessary. More simply put, it supplies more air than the stock V6 van gulp.ihatemybike wrote:So these both flow the same amount of air?

So why don't bigger more powerful engines use the plate/diffuser?

Thanks for the link Aaron, I must admit I am a little mesmerised by the selection. Which one do you guys think would be best for low to mid range power?ihatemybike wrote:You can cut the restrictor plate off the stock one or get a throttle blade from a Cadillac Northstar Engine as it bolts right up. The restrictor plate closes one side of the throttle body till about 1/4 throttle and always blocks part of the opening. Removing it means you'll be on the gas sooner.
GU6 means that your currently have 3.42 gears. Without going to bigger tires, I wouldn't put on lower than 3.73 gears. Spicer and Yukon are the names that have the best rep in the Jeep crowds, but stock GM stuff is available too. Standard brand gears are known to be noisy.

Re: Aftermarket Ring & Pinion Which One Is Best?
I'm sorry.
You're right, Gary. Ripping the throttle diffuser off your 3 ton air plow is totally worthwhile. Heck, maybe you'll even shave a millisecond or two off your drive to the barn. That'll show those soccer moms!
In a month, you'll save enough time to line up your spark plugs. Oh and don't forget to drop loads of cash on special oil that gives your motor magical power.
This is getting way off topic. I think your 3.42's are just what you need for the kind of mixed driving you describe: short city hops and long hauls on the highway. Save your money to buy drinks for the spanish girls.

Please excuse TB's reply. There is something to be said in the tone and type this invoking a argument and especially when he with purpose and malice is pitting one member against another.Very much like how Mike was handle by him.Clearly he sought support from Reaper because he himself wasn't sure of the answer. It also seems because I can't find a post by Reaper that the confidence of a PM was broken and to my knowledge that is never done.If any lesions are to be learned from this,it would be to have Admins address his conduct and the fact of his unwillingness to learn topics from more experienced forum members.Ben-I am embarrassed by this given you are a new forum member and I only hope you will overlook it.
Reaper-I disagree with your opinion.Flow benches certainly done by mod's aftermarket are not as TB put it Snake oil merchants.I for one always pointing out those kinds of companies. This site beyond yourself has had members use the mod and it did make a difference.

If I were to, I'd get the Yukon 3.73 gears. But really, I'd leave the 3.42s and give the van a tune up and install a Transgo HD2 kit in the transmission with a corvette servo.
I love how the ricers back down when Green chirps the tires hitting the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts under heavy throttle.

I have just given the van a major service and have replaced the following parts.
Engine Oil Filter
Oil Drain Plug Gasket
Oil Drain Plug
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump Mounting
Delphi Fuel Pump
Fuel Tank Seal
Automatic Transmission Filter
Dizzy Cap & Rotor Arm
NKG Premium Iridium Sparkplugs
MSD Plug Wires
PCV Valve
I have replaced all the fluids in the Engine, Auto Gearbox, Rear Axle & Transfer case along with Brake & Power Steering Fluid and coolant.
The van has a new K&N air filter, Magnaflow performance cat & Gibson exhaust.
I am looking at a Ring & Pinion replacement maybe a Torque Converter and now a Transgo HD2 kit #-o
Is this the correct Transgo HD2 kit in the link - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRG-4L60E-HD2/
Once all this work has been completed I will be getting the PCM re-flashed.

Re: Aftermarket Ring & Pinion Which One Is Best?
Now as someone who has done gear swaps, I'll chime in. #-o The absolutely BEST bang for the buck is doing a gear swap if you want better acceleration, hill climbing power and towing ability. The only other way is to swap in a 350 V8. I know...been there done that! All the minor engine mods won't make a hill of beans difference compared to the gear swap.
First thing first...is your van AWD? If it is double the price, double the job since you MUST do the front axle too! If not you only need to do the rear.
Go with Yukon gears. I have done several and never had a failure of the gear set. Go with a premium Timken or Koyo master install kit and get the proper tools and you will be good to go. No need for a cover gasket - you can use RTV sealant. Get 4.10's, you will NOT be disappointed. Ask Zam...he drove my RWD 95 conversion over 400 plus miles towing his pop-up camper and got better than 17 mpg! That van was fast and with the Transgo HD-2 shift kit, it would easily chirp tires. We also installed 4.11's in his old 95 and take-off difference is huge. With 4.10's and stock tires, you will climb hills in OD with no hesitation or drop in speed. 0 to 60 times will improve greatly and the van will be fun to drive.

Re: Aftermarket Ring & Pinion Which One Is Best?
Thanks for the info lifted, the van is a 4.3 V6 Vortec RWD with an automatic gearbox . If you could give me the links to the parts in question it would be really appreciated as I am useless at finding the correct parts for these vans for some reason

I use Complete OffRoad...not sure they ship international though.
Yukon 7.5" or 7.625" gear set in 4.11 ratio.
Master install kit.
After the gears are done, do the HD-2 shift kit with a corvette servo and a Tru-cool aux tranny cooler.

Did I manage to find the correct HD-2 shift kit?
Which Corvette servo should I look at getting and is it a straight forward swap?
What are your thoughts on the Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold, new heads with the inlet/outlet ports enlarged, 2.02" x 1.60" valves, comp cams kit to match and Torque Converter?
