Very cool, and does not look like the G80 I'm familiar with. Leave it to GM to use "G80" to designate two completely different parts, LOL.
I agree that the 3.73 is a good gear. I've had several vehicles with this gear and feel that it is a great compromise between power and economy.
One thing I like to bring up when deciding on an ratio is to look at all aspects; Most guys consider their vehicle's horsepower and weight, but forget about speed and terrain.
I wouldn't hesitate to put in 4.10s in my work commuter since I drive 15 miles one way on hilly and curvy back country roads, rarely exceed 50-55 mph or go for more than a few miles without slowing down for a bad curve, turn or stop. I run my van in drive most of the time 'cause OD is too much with the 3.42s on these roads. I often ran my '91 in drive also, and it had the 3.73s, but had a less powerful TBI motor compared to the W in my '94.
However, if you drive flat, straight roads I agree that the 4.10s may be too deep for you, unless you tow or run heavy a whole lot. This would be more so with a V8.
I also had a no window cargo with 3.23s in it and it was awesome (like 23 mpg) running empty on the interstate.
Where and how you drive is just as important as power and weight when choosing a ratio.

Re: Gear prices
i'm going to stick with the 3.42 since i tend to hammer on my drive train a lot and with a V8 i would more then likely chip teeth on the gears. i don't do much towing now but i intend too eventually. GM seems to use G80 to designate "posi" only depending on vehicle the manufacturer/design changes it's a shame they couldn't be more specific in their codes
