Nothing done on the 350 this weekend, either. The machine shop had one of their grinding machines down for repairs and didn't have time for my engine.
It's just as well--I'm trying to get the property tax money together since it's due next month, so if nothing gets done on the engine, the money can go to taxes.

But I have been looking into getting the cam. The original cam was flat tappet and I'd like to go with a roller. However, the cost of the retrofit lifters is substantial...just might be a flat tappet cam back in this engine after all.

Save up for the roller cam Rob. You will like the newer style cam setup a lot once you try them. Smoother running with more torque than a similar flat tappet cam. Spend some money on some good heads or time porting what you have if you are on a budget. Good luck with your latest build.

Wow, I can't believe I missed this post. Keep us posted Rob, on the Olds motor as well. You may know I'm an Olds guy at heart (have three) and two 350 blocks as well. Almost put one in the Astro. They are getting tougher to find these days. I heard someone mention Mondello, stay away he's since retired and turned the business over to his son inlaw who could care less about what he's doing just the $$$ turning Mondello's name to mud. For those wondering other than the non-adjustable valve train, the olds 350 has best bore & stroke of all the GM 350's. They did make a port fuel injected version for the 79 caddys I believe.

I have ties to a couple of Olds motor and head guys if you need anything.

Also ditto on the roller cam, don't know if you followed my build at all, but I went with a flat tappet and had a wipe out. First time ever I had this. If you do still go with it at least make sure you dump in some EOS during break in. As far as cost I dont' want to talk about what I've got in mine other than every time I turn the key to start it I feel good knowing I put the motor together and it's done right with the extra care like gaping rings. Remeber clean, clean and clean! I'm in the proccess of doing my own chip burning and will be posting results as I go. It's not that hard once you get an understanding of what's going on.

Good luck
