Re: Tran project- V8 stroker
Easy now... We are all friends and I respect everyone’s input. I do agree that with parts I have in this build, doing extreme port matching is really for the guys that make a living at going around in very fast circles with their cars. We really are just make believers having fun and taking a bunch of parts (new and used) to make a big chuck of metal down the road. Where are we going? To our buddies house to show them how load my truck is or to show off how much more “power” our truck has now that we added a injector pod spacer. Is there really true measurable difference? Probably not.
Adding the extra cubes, the cam, heads, dual TBI’s, computer and headers will make a huge torque increase that you can feel in you pants. Porting-not so much.
There are two reasons I post here. #1) Awesome people- I have seen the moral fiber and willingness of the members to help people who really need help with there vans. #2) Information- there is an abundance of information available because every part of these vans has been touched by people that contribute here.
I can honestly say that without this board (and the one before) I would not be doing this project as you see it today. You both are good guys and I respect both as I am not an expert mechanic but a want to be.
Stan- Your years with GM are a very valuable asset to people here and please don’t be offended. Gary- your years of hot rodding and your willingness to post everyday is part of this board. You both have helped me out a bunch.
Now let's focus on getting the Tran running.

Gary, I think you are comparing apples and oranges with your info on tunnel rams. Neither of these manifolds are tunnel rams. And this motor is not going to be a 5000 hp fueler. There are a lot of compromises that can be made in a street motor and it still turn out to be a real performer. I'm a bit more concerned about the dual throttle bodys. It's going to be interesting to see what electronics are used to operate them. This young man is doing a great job for his admitted lack of experience.
Stan.......don't go away. We need your expertise.

Skip-my point is port matching is still valid in tunnel rams and are a lot farther away than 2".LOL-I remember how much I paid into a mod for just 10HP. Just trying to help Jim compound his mods for a greater result.Alittle time with a dremel (SP) tool if needed doesn't cost anything and as Jim stated,he isn't even sure if he will have to do anything at all.I would guess he would find the runners on the manifold a bit off given the 200cc runners on the heads.
Go get um Jim.This is a great mod and a virgin mod ever done here.Going to be hot.

It does make sense given self aligning rocker arms used on hydro roller lifters set-ups.Take a look see at the link.

Re: Tran project- V8 stroker
Here are the photos of the TBI's I will be using. One note to anyone that has cleaned up there TBI units and have removed the throttle plates. I use a mild abrasive wheel to clean and polish the bores up. when I got done there was a greater gap between the bore and the plate seen here.
There is a factory adjustment screw (t-25 Trox) behind a plank off plate shown here.
After allowing the plate to back off some the gap closed. I would also loosen the two screws (t-9 torx) for the throttle plates to allow them to seek center.
This is the throttle shaft shaving:
Blank off plate as I will be using one AFR.
AFR I made:
There is more photo's on the link below.
I've got some time now to clean up a few odds and ends before the rest of my parts will be here. That's ok it's been running 15* at my house and the garage is not heated. Well, at least I'm out of the wind...

Jim on my computer I go to the picture file and right click on the photo. That brings a screen up that gives me the option to click on resize pictures.Than I go to customize pictures and that brings me to a size that is size by size and I plug in the size I want.Click ok.I then go to photobucket and copy the resized picture.Copy that and post it and bingo-a down sized picture.

Re: Tran project- V8 stroker
I came upon a bit of a snaffoo! THe intake manifold center to center measurement is 6 7/16" which does not allowenough room for the forword TBI fuel lines. I will be calling/researching GM fuel fittings that I might could make something work. At this point my parts order will be delayed until I work through this. THere is a cross fire style intanke that I can go with (offenhouser) but it is very expensive and I won't be able to use the Vortec style heads.
I'll keep you posted.

Or I could possibly turn the TBI's sideways?
