There are a couple of ways to skin this cat. Helper springs are usually a good choice for your application since then they don't affect ride when the van is unloaded. What's the spring rating on your helpers?

If you're looking to handle extra weight without helpers, the correct method is usually to increase the spring capacity. Easiest for me would be to check out the offerings from SDtruckSprings:

This is the stock 22-1195 spring pack, just for comparison:
http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index.php ... ts_id=1432 (Rated to 1410lbs)

Next is the 22-1195HD spring pack (3+1):
http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index.php ... s_id=17141 (Rated to 1700lbs)

Last is the 22-1195XHD pack (4+1):
http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index.php ... s_id=17142 (Rated to 2100lbs)

Lastly, if you want rear lift, separate from the capacity, you can look at the S-10 offerings which are compatible but have more arch. But again, the correct way to handle extra weight is with higher-rated capacity, not just lift (since using S-10 1410lb springs with more arch but heavier loads will just compress the spring down into the range where it doesn't work as well)

As usual a great post from Herbie! You stated its a cargo van that's always full of tools. If that's the case the 4+1 would probably fix what's ailing your van. What type of tools makes a big difference also. A couple of electric pipe threaders and a roof rack full of cast iron pipe vs pvc fittings and a chop saw. The downside is the ride is pretty stiff if you clean out your van and take a trip. It's not horrible-your fillings won't get jarred loose but it's truck like for sure.
I went with HD S-10's for lift and towing. I run empty most of the time and it's FIRM for sure.
Good luck, let us know what you decide and how you make out
