power fuel pump

I have a 1999 safari I totaled, has new fuel pump and full tank of gas. hooked a line up to the filter to drain gas with pump but it only pumps gas for a second as it is not running. is there a way to power pump via a jumper at the relay of some other method or am I going to have to cut harness from tank and figure out what wire goes to pump.
want to recover gas and pump before i scrap it.

Yes, you can just remove the relay and jump the terminals. It will run until your battery dies. It's best to have someone else there that can pull it as soon as it sputters, don't want to let the pump run dry for more than 3 seconds or so.
