Time for new shocks

Post by LaGrasta »

Per my signature, we need to replace the old Edlebrock IAS shocks, so many miles. We want a smooth ride, but capable. Thinking of ProComp due to price, any recommendations?

I can't give comparative results. I'm currently on Bilsteins, which have been fine.

The only time I notice them not being 100% what I want is on washboard roads, but I'm not sure what I'd need to change to make washboards work right anyhow. (Airing down seems to be the biggest fix, but maybe having adjustables would let me dial in better behavior?)

Hi,
Do the Bilsteins 4600 series front shocks have the nice soft rubber inserts in the eye ends rather than harsh polyurethane?
I remember the 1999 Tahoe had option for the soft ride Bilstein with the rubber grommets in the eyes at end links.
The rubber absorbs the first impact.

AP

Polyurethane is firm and May last longer like when used in sports cars sway bars.'everything is a trade off , firm is great on smooth streets , but softer compliance on washboard.

AstroPhysics, This has been my experience as well. I prefer rubber, smoother ride.

I've been looking up parts; not great for Astro, attempting Blazer or S10. Are they same, I think yes.

AutoZone was just so easy to walk in and buy what they offered, so I went with Gabrial Ultra, a far better shock than OEM. Install was easy and the ride is now significantly improved over my old worn out Edlebrocks. How much better had I chose another brand …I'll never know.
