Cant turn crank...

Post by ExtraParts »

Finally got down behind the timing cover and confirmed the chain is loose, now after i put the harmonic balancer and main pully back on, i cant get it to turn so i cant tdc #4(i know i should've done that first, but hey, i forgot). It feels like im going to break the main crank bolt...

As i type this im feeling like maybe its because i didnt use the proper harmonic balancer installer tool and maybe things just arent tight enough? Or maybe, with my luck, since it rained for a couple days and i had a spark plug out, maybe something inside got rusty and is preventing movement. Dont know what to think, feeling defeated over something so small.

Anyways, the gears in the van won't turn, just trying to get the gears upstairs to turn a bit...

Arg. Im so close... maybe.

Try moving it with a large pry bar on the starter ring gear.

Good luck.

Did you pull spark plugs again to remove compression?

Also, type in
" You Tube Chevy 4.3 V6 set TDC, etc". To search for video and audio hints.

I assume you have removed radiator to have better access.

Try to borrow fancy tools from Auto Zone etc.

You could also look on line at S10 Blazer forum and 4.3 GM forum

Since the 4.3 shares many parts with the 350 v8, also ask local v8 friends and Speed shops for ideas

God bless you for all your hard work, we wish you success.

All plugs out, still wont budge. Found rust on #5 plug(the part that does the work, not the threads) which leads me to believe there is rust inside the cylinder as well, which is probably why it wont turn. Crank bolt is literally shaving metal off of the mega washer it sits on. Squirted some oil in all the plug holes, gunna let it soak overnight and try again tomorrow i guess.
