Automotive aftermarket in Canada is concerned as manufacturers make it harder and harder to extract useful information from all the increasingly computerized vehicles. Logically if repair shops can't access the computer systems they will not be able to repair the vehicles and the dealers will be the only option, even brake jobs. One of my friends had to buy a special cable to connect his VW to his laptop to release the electronic parking brake in order to change the pads, the job he said was a breeze as it auto adjusted after installing the new pads and telling the car to calibrate itself. If car makers decide to lock that out even basic maintenance will be difficult.

That is why I intend to keep my Astro until it has expired. I can get any part I need & repair whatever. With good maintenance I expect it to last a long long time.

The US has "Right to repair". Massachusetts just voted to broaden it. The nanny state continues to grow.

Oh broaden it you say? I'm going to have to go check out what they have added.

Okie1: I love my astro (finally found my 6.0L for it) too but some of the new vehicles are starting to appeal to me again, not being able to hook my laptop up to them and tweak them is a turn-off.
