4l80e swap out

Post by kpw »

I have a 1995 that has a 4l80 e in it that is whining in all gears. gets louder as i go down the rd. a 4l80e is 700 used in my area and to rebuild it would be far to expensive for an old painters van. What other transmission will fit it? engine is a vortec 350 that surprisingly is in good shape.

Astro/Safaris never had 4L80s. Did you put one in? They came with 4L60E's.
If it whines in neutral then it's probably not coming from the transmission.

:poke: Are ye attempting a 4L80-E retrofit, which I've longlisted as a fallback in case the physical brake layout contraindicates a clutch retrofit? The M-body midvan came with the 4L60-E stock from 1996-2001, the 4L65-E from 2002 to end of production. (The Allison 1000 five-speed is too large for the M-body.) That whine may be coming from the rear axle, if its frequency is a function of road speed.

Astro/Safaris only ever got 4L60Es. In later years some of internal parts may have been upgraded , but it was never a full blown 4L65 which was put behind the bigger V8's like the 6.0L

Again, not if it happens in Neutral.
