'91 Blower motor

Post by astrowsell »

I'm a newbie here, so please go easy on me. I have an old 1991 Astro, and the blower motor died recently. I'm suspecting it's a relay. The resistor pack looks fine. If I set the control on "Hi" I get nothing, but if I pull a wire off the blower and put it back on the blower begins to work. Then if I turn it off and on again..nothing, but pulling the wire off and putting it back on starts it up again. On the firewall there seems to be 2 different "relays" One is cube shaped and the other is rectangular. Is the smaller cube shaped one the proper blower one?
Thanks in advance

No high speed on the blower is usually the relay or the resistor pack. The relay is located under the hood on the firewall above the evaporator housing.

Of course, your switch might be failing so don't forget to check it as well.

I spoke too soon...yup it's the switch, or at least the plug attached to the switch...got it working by "finicking" with the switch/plug...sorry to waste the bandwidth...

No problem. This may well help someone else by making them look at the switch before spending a lot of money.

For the record, the larger relay is the high-speed relay.

When you replace the blower motor (and you will soon), replace the squirrel cage fan at the same time with a metal fan.
