does any one know if a starter from a 305 will work on a 4.3??

Depends on which fly wheel the 305 has on it. I've never seen a 153 tooth 4.3L flywheel (or heard of it) but it may be out there. They are smaller diameter than a 4.3L's flywheel and not hard to visually identify this with the inspection cover off of the trans. Besides this it is an 85 or earlier engine the 305 flywheel will not work on an 86+ 4.3L. The 86 and up have a one piece rear main seal and a different flywheel in turn.
