Would the owner of this van.......

Post by BLAZER »

please come get it out of my drive,...or should it say, "gary, come get your junker out of my yard"! :D :muhaha:
I talked to Gary and offered/dealed in retrieving this V8 van for old yellar swap in order to help cut about 8 hrs off his trip. Overall in okay condition, just no 2nd, 4th, or reverse...oh, yeah, fun unloading it off trailer. Once it starts, it sounds pretty healthy, besides running too fast.
I wished I would have taken pics of it on trailer, I only had 1/2" clearance on each side of rails. I drove 246 miles one way, farily uneventful, just had to stop every 100-150 miles and put air in one of the trailer tires.
Oh, and when you see the signs "bridge freezes over" and the conditions are right for them to do it, Take head. I ended up coming off an overpass bridge at about 70 mph a quarter sideways with the trailer, thankfully empty, pushing me. Ever heard the song "Jesus take the wheel" ? Well, he was driving that instant cause when it corrected, it was as smooth as butter, I was thinking I was going to go into a roll over with my lifted Tahoe, but come right around. I had the poop my pants and pucker factor all in the same instance! [-o< [-o< Trip was fine on ay back, ran about 60 mph the whole way, and this astro followed me the whole way home..... :muhaha:
Gary may be picking up a van without a motor.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Not if you bought the van as a donor. You're gonna have to work harder than that, Gary! [-( [-X

The V8 club is restricted to people who have actually installed the V8 in the vehicle they are going to be driving with it in. Unless your name is skippy then purchasing a new DD with it already in counts as well lol.

I agree. lol

Nice project van. Is it fuel injected or carburated? Pretty easy to swap in a rebuilt trany and get her on the road again.

The previous owner Casey stated the motor was out of a 95 or 96 truck, probably a roller block, TBI. It wouldn't be a bad driver with a new tranny, a good bath and the carpet cleaned. Pretty rust free for a midwest van.

Nope Rocky-I bought this van.Going to rebuild tranny and drive to see what else it needs before swapping the V8/tranny into Ole Yellar.Blazer just picked it up for me to get it closer for me to get.(thanks Marty).I ran the numbers that Casey gave to me and it seems to be a 1996 year. This is the van I have been posting about that I bought for the engine and tranny.

Pots-once I rebuild the tranny and drive it-then I should be in the V8 club.

Rocky-it is a TBI 350.Looking to swap in a 383 GM roller cam and looking real hard at Vortec heads, intake and roller rockers. Not sure if I am going to use the large port Vortec heads with 2.00" intake valves and 1.55" exhaust valves.I am building a low end torker 350.It has cop car injectors lifted already.Going to have to do a chip burn as well after the head/cam change.Going to swap in a Ford 9" into Ole Yellar with 3.70's gears.

Going to swap in the head/cam change during the swap to Ole Yellar.Going to swap via the sub frame and do a 2" to 3" lift at the same time.

The body is promised to Dean after I have the 350 into Ole Yellar.

So with Blazers help Ole Yellar's V8 swap is back on track.I wanted to buy a Astro with the 350 conversion already done for the harness and computer.I tried to work a deal with Shawn (from AS) after he crashed his,but he was never around to finish the deal.I firgured the extra distance was worth it for a van that had a running 350 in it.

I will go to Blazers next Sunday to pick up this van as I have already stated. As you know these swaps take time and I am hoping to have Ole Yellar done by the end of April.I got a friend who have a repair shop with lifts and all that is going to work with me on this.I will buy a camera along the way and post pictures as things get done.

Gary, have I mentioned that I just love watching others spend money on their vans? Well, in case I didn't mention it, I just love it! :supz:
Do get that camera and take lots of photos.
Hope to see the beast at NECO.

Rob-yeah that's why I was thinking of naming this van as the "White Shark".Everytime I look at it,it takes a bite out of my wallet.LOL.

Nope-the van will be home because I am planning on bringing the RV to NECO 08.But once I do get a camera I would think I would catch the photo bug and bore you all with pictures.

The main reason for me moving to free up more money for projects.

I would check it out and see how it pulls before you mod it. Those TBI engines run very well with just a few mods which it sounds like it has already. I am hoping that is surprises you! Good luck with your swap Gary!

I doubt the tires helped, It was definitely somebody else driving. I did instinctively turn into the slide so the front tires were pointing the direction of the road so when it hit dry pavement, I had lucky not over corrected and the rear straightened right up without snapping around,....but I had help, I truly believe that!!!!
Now if I can just get the van out of my front yard..... :muhaha: :D :yawinkle:
I have been keeping the motor broke in though,.... oh Gary, don't mind the black marks on the street in front of my house :muhaha: 1st gear works well :supz:
