SHE NEARLY BIT IT OFF! What has your Van done TO YOU lately?

I treat her so nice. Last Tuesday I bought her a new set of 31" BFG Mud Terrnain tires AND a matching wheel for the spare, even thought her old tires are less than 4 months old! Then Thursday I bought her 4" HD lift spindles and 4" HD leafs from Overlands. We're talkin' serious cha-ching! And what does she do for me on Friday? SHE NEARLY BITES IT OFF! If I didn't love her so much I would have dented that biotches grille for sure!

I always loved how she sounded when the door closed. A nice strong clunk that somehow made it feel more like a truck, and made me feel more manly. Now it scares the crap out of me! I wasn't paying much attention as I closed the drivers door and it nearly cost me my pinky! My finger literally exploded! I'll spare you the splatter photo of the door sill. OUCH!

Hahaha!! I'm laughing because I KNOW JUST HOW MUCH THIS HURTS!!
I just did the same thing a few weeks ago. To my right middle fingah! Slammed the hatch down on it & it LOCKED.
I had to fumble for the keys with my left hand.... Seconds felt like hours til I finally unlocked myself. OY! Did that ever frikkin HURT! #-o
The nail eventually came off. Now I have an ugly, gimpy-finger, #-o I showed Mr SoCalli when he came.

If you get pressure & swelling under the nail, PM me. I performed my own successful surgery to drain the blood & fluids. VERY simple & pain free.
Hope it feels better soon.

There is a specific order to closing a door. 1st, remove hand. THEN close the door. It took me a few tries to get it right but I caught on eventually. #-o

I love my Dremel tool! Drilled a hole in the nail, and 30 minutes later it looks almost normal again! The rest of my finger is still swollen but WOW, what an improvement!



For a while there it was like a whales blow hole.

Huh. Never thought to use the Dremel for getting the blood colt out. GREAT idea!

I think just about everyone on this forum knows how that feels. For me it happened many times in my youth including the sliding door

drilling the other side of the finger is never recommended by me...was putting a body kit on a car and drilling through fiberglass, thought i had my finger out of the way until it went through the fiberglass, and sunk nice and deep in my finger...not fun and hurt like mad!!

on the plus side, my van has been relatively nice to me...a couple head shots and a couple scratches...hasn't been too rough to me...had a ranger that was good for a minimum of 3 cuts for any task done to it...

Not me I have never slammed my finger in a door or window or hatch on any vehicle I have ever owned (knock on wood) My brother on the other hand broke 3 fingers in the passenger door of my 93. My buddy smashed 2 in the hatch of my 98.

But my 93 gave me a finger sized dent in my shin (literally it's a dent I can stick my finger in) and a 4 inch gash when I slipped on some ice while climbing in and smoked my shin off the rusty rocker panel as I fell kinda against / under the van.

I literally lost count at 50 dents and cuts and bruises on my shins from leaving the draw bar on my vans. I've got at least 10 in the last month since I've been doing alot of towing.

Also the random finger smashes from leaning right in on a rusty bolt or nut then it suddenly letting go and my hand smashing into the closest chunk of metal. The caliper bolts I find are the worst for that. Be putting pressure on em to get em loose then WHAP and my hand smashes into the wheel well or strut.

Sorry Mr Crawler, I had company today so I just got your PM. I see you got 'er done without me anyway!!
I didn't use a demel tool But I DID use a red-hot paper clip. No doesn't hurt at all. And YES instant relief!!!
I had to pop mine the very next morning as the throbbing PAIN drove me insane all night long!!

Here's my pix. They are taken about 30 minutes apart. (I popped it just before the sun rose) The nail actually 'grew' itself off. I have yet to photograph the gimpy-nailess-finger.

Sounds like your experience with the Ranger is the same with the Jag for me. Except the time I change the fuel pump which is dead easy however I got a face full of gas - eyes open trying to plug the hose up with the back end of the socket tool and then run for the garden hose.

Pots I dont think you are lucky ... with all that to claim I would rather take the finger / thumb beating I had already. Although I do know how the shin on the hitch feels - ouch!

Well not door slamming related but some idiot got my thumb good last night during our hockey game. I'll the thumb 1 week to be normal ... and the dude who whacked me with my glove off ... his butt 2 weeks It was worth the 2minute slashing.

Mine broke the middle toe of my left foot...ok well, I helped...
I walked through the dew coated grass bear footed to get in the van one morning, postitioned my backside in the seat and went to push with my left foot on the pad in the door well to reposition a little. My foot slipped and I kicked the holy c**p out of the door. I've sprained and broken toes before. I expected to be in limping agony for weeks. The whole thing turned black. I thought the dang thing was going to fall off.
What I discovered was that the middle toe is of little consequence. I hardly even noticed it. apparantly most of the stress on my toes is handled by the other 4.

And trust me, NO one can hear you SCREAM at the end of our driveway.
I could not even speak after this... I just danced around in circles for 30 minutes holding my fingah. My husband lost interest after awhile.... When the words finally came out & I told my husband exactly what happened...Mr D/L started laughing at me!! (Men are such CRUEL, CRUEL creatures!)
So I just started whacking him with injured hand...That's when it started to bleed.
HERE is spurting blood from THAT!
Well, didn't exactly spurt. More of an oozing...

Yes, I LOVE to document my own stupidities. People don't believe me when I say "I earn my screen name EVERY day"
Being camera-happy helps too.
Make sure you keep squeezing the fluids out the 'blow hole' If that clogs, you'll have all that pressure build-up & PAIN comes back. Then you'll have to re-open the hole. Squeeze & blot with a paper towel periodically. You may lose the nail. Keep trimming off what you can. It may eventually all fall off. TRUST me, if I can get through this, you will too.
