I heard that the wireing was there if you had the option or not so I bought the module and key thingie and dove into the dash to find it. I DID find where it would go IF I had it but no wireing was to be found on my '98.

That is a good question, where would the wiring be found in the dash?

i'd stop in at your local dealer and ask them to run the VIN. make it seem like you are interested in buying a remote from them if it has keyless (even if you are planning on getting one off ebay) yes.. shady, I know.. but when you can get one on ebay for $25 and program it yourself....

Driver side right behind the 1 1/2 DIN stock stereo. I forgot what markings it has on it but it is bolted to the dash. If you remove the under dash by driver foot, then the whole front dash (pretty ease to do, set gear level to 1st ... park brake) you should see it if equipped. I had to get to it when I was doing my alarm a few years back because I thought I fried it when things where going whacky on me

I'm planning on having keyless entry and remote start installed on my Safari... any brands or models to stay away from....
the van didn't come with remote and only one key as well.
my understanding is that as long as the vehicle is equipped with power locks, it doable....

Yes, with power locks you can just piggy back off the central lock system. Even without power locks you can do it but just more time and the actuating motors around roughly $25-40 each.
Just find what you like and if you are particular about sounds make sure you know how it beeps at you so you are not annoyed but it on a daily bases

Look for RPO code's AUO or AU5
if that's on the build list, your van has keyless entry.
My 2000 has it, but someone lost the key fob somewhere along the way.
Now I have to get a new fob, and find out how to set the code on it.

That site is AWSOME!!
I just stole the fob from My 99 Alero, which has a trashed motor.
Read the instructions for the 2000 Astro, and had it programmed in less than 2 minutes.
Thanks for the link crash
Now My keyless entry is usable again

Can a moderator pin / sticky this post? That link will most likely be useful again in the future
