Rebuild Front End

Post by Rileysowner »

I have had this van for 6 years or so now, and am thinking that at least some of the front end steering components are showing some wear. Rather than doing a little here and a little there, I have been considering doing the whole front end. My question, is what order should I replace the components in, or does it matter. I realize I will need an alignment afterward, and I would like to do the rebuild before putting on new tires and get the alignment then.

Personally I see no advantage to replacing all the steering parts at once unless they all are worn out and you like to spend a ton of hard cash on them all! I would instead do a very thorough inspection and replace only the worn parts as needed. Then get the alignment done when the new tires are installed.

If you are going to do the whole job anyways, when the tie rods are off, replace all 4 ball joints before putting on new tie rod ends. The idlers can be done anytime in there as well as the center/drag link.

If you are going to do the whole job anyway, remove the upper and lower control arms and change the bushings. \:D/
