Air Adjustable Shocks

Post by Rileysowner »

Last night while packing some stuff my wife had purchased at an auction I noticed that my rear shocks are done. Lots of bounce on the bounce test. Anyway, I was wondering what experience people have with air adjustable shocks. I know that So-calliV8 has Gabriel Hi-Jackers. I have also seen that Monroe has the Max Air shocks which are much the same thing.

Any thoughts?

I have the Max Airs on the Smilievan. I carry about 800 lbs of balloon equipment all of the time. They do exactly what I needed them to do. No problems. \:D/

Did you install them yourself, and if so, what was the install like?

Ya, I installed them. No more trouble than installing regular shocks. The only part that you have to pay real close attention to is where you run the air lines. They're small poly tubing and you don't want them near any heat or sharp edges. \:D/

Super easy to install, I recommend fitting 1 fill valve per shock rather than have 1 valve filling both shocks, they will stop your rear end from sagging when towing.

Well my rear shocks are done. The bounce test shows lots of bounce, and major sag when there is any load so I am looking forward to having shocks that work.

As usual prices here in Canada are nuts. I can order from Rockauto and the Monroe Max Air shocks are $55 for the pair, or autozone where the Gabriel Hijackers are $61 a pair. Rockauto will ship to Canada and that brings the price to just short of $100. Autozone, afaik, does not ship to Canada.

Thought I would check out prices here. So far the best I can find is $165 for the pair of Monroe Max Air shocks.

I understood the price differences when the Canadian dollar was at .60 or so US, but now that we are pretty much at par, I feel like we are getting ripped off here North of the border. If a local parts place would sell them for close to the US price, I would give them my business. As it is, I am seriously thinking that a trip south of the border might be in order.

even if fuel costs, cancel out shipping costs, be a nice road trip... talk others before hand, and see if you can pick a few item for others, for small fee.

might even turn into a nice little part time or occasional job/business....

even check with auto parts stores... see if they would help fund the costs, to keep their shipping costs down....

Got the shocks from Cobra on Tuesday. I would have posted sooner, but Wednesday was a right off after I only got 3 hours of sleep. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks again. Now to get them on. :)

It is killing me that I have to work, and don't have much time to get at them right now. Once I opened the box I wanted to get at it, but I was exhausted. The meeting Tuesday went to a little after 9. I figured that meant being home by 11:30 or so, nice easy drive with little traffic. On the way home I hit a section of construction that took the 3 lane highway down to 1 lane. It took 30 minutes to cover 4Km (about 2.5 Miles) Then a little later, the same thing, but they were just closing it down to one lane when I got near, but still a slow down. Got home much later than expected. Took an hour or so to wind down so I could sleep, by then it was 2AM. Got woken up Wednesday morning by a very loud thunderstorm at 5AM. So with 3 hours of sleep I proceeded to muddle through the day until I get up and went to bed and slept for a couple of hours.

Anyway, I am trying to catch up on my work today.

But I will get to them soon.
