With the rear seats removed, I removed the two plastic interior panels on the drivers side of the van (no tools needed, just yank and pull). I then tapped into the rear power outlet and ran them toward the front just a few feet. I connected them to the newly mounted power outlet just below the drivers seat belt near the base of the seat.
Now the rear seat has a power source with arm's distance. No more power wires strung between the kids computer and the front dash. Sorry no pics.

Re: QUICK TIP – New power outlet
I dig this one. I've been thinking about hiding an inverter behind an interior panel and having a couple of 110v outlets for laptops. Last MTB road trip we had four laptops running, taking turns on the inverter as their batteries drained.

Yeah, that is a good idea. I was just inside my side panels yesterday bringing the electrinic transfercase wiring up thru the existing wire route. Was thinking similar thoughts.

Re: QUICK TIP – New power outlet
besides my cb radio, tapping in a power inverter and an additional 7 outlets was my first mod, i have it all mounted inside the little cubbies behind the drivers seat, i can easily reach it whilst driving. i dont use it as much as i used to but it still comes in handy.ihatemybike wrote:I dig this one. Re: QUICK TIP – New power outlet
Here's an inverter I've been bidding on. These guys have had at least 5 or 6 each week on Ebay going anywhere from 36.00 to 70 bucks. Not really where I'd like their feedback to be but with that many sales guess it's not bad.

Re: QUICK TIP – New power outlet
Be careful about mounting an inverter in an enclosed space. They need fresh air to circulate for cooling. I was going to mount one on the right side on the drivers seat pedestal but the recepticles are in the wrong direction so anything other than a straight plug will not fit. Could use a short extension I suppose.ihatemybike wrote:I dig this one. I've been thinking about hiding an inverter behind an interior panel and having a couple of 110v outlets for laptops. Re: QUICK TIP – New power outlet
Here's something I posted a while back, might have been on the other site actually. If you're interested in a hidden inverter install, check it out...
Driver's side of the van, I tapped off of the power wires I originally ran to my amp. Ran underneath the van from the battery and then through the factory hole (where cooler drain goes through the floor)
Inverter in compartment. I later surrounded the inverter with foam to keep it solid but didn't choke it off totally.
Close-up of outlet.
I like your idea Lagrasta. Ive been wanted to do a 12V setup also. Where's those pics?
I actually put my inverter to use and plugged in a hair dryer (heat off) to blow up my air matress while camping....so cool, haha.

Re: QUICK TIP – New power outlet
Nice tip! I love the look of a 110v outlet in there, it's sort of crazy looking. You almost do a double take when first spotting it.
