I believe many folks have died trying to set up a race on it.... That being said, that is one road that I want to ride on before I die.. but I certainly don't want to race on it... I think that'd take the beauty out of the drive..

I'd run all the way up to Knoxville and catch it down to Maryville going to Townsend. Great drive and beautiful country.

rebel did that say 636...?
yep, did...636 turns in 22 miles between Deals Gap and Chilhowee, Tn.
If you're in this part of the country AND HAVE THE TIME it's a must drive if only a few miles. Like I said earlier,,,I'd drive north to Knoxville just to drive south on 129 and get off at Maryville,Tn. which is only about 20 miles and then on to Townsend.
batmo,,where you from ? All my family is from Harriman, Rockwood and Sweetwater area.

the road was much better when it was 55mph, (pre internet era) no crowds, much safer and TTs were no problem back then.
these days you gotta know when to ride/drive it if you want to pick up the pace. I wouldnt consider it a senic route unless you like motorbikes.
supermotos rule it but a shifter kart would definately be the ticket for the quickest over all
BTW many people have died just driving the speed limit on this road, racers are ussually at less risk here due to the skills. generally its lack of slkills that kill here.
next photo
I wouldnt have belived it if I hadnt seen it:
how random is that LOL
Rebel, Im in Rockdale Co. GA

I happened on "The Tail" by accident a few years back while vacationing down there.I had no idea until we got to the eastern end and had pulled into the rest area overlook. At this point a couple of unregistered SCCA Cobra's flew bye followed by a couple of Lotus 7's and I figured it was a well known strip.
Wished I had gotten a pic of the "Stay on your side of the road" warning signs. Skull and crossbones type of thing if I remember correctly....

I live in the flight path of a local airport, which has small aircraft buzzing in and out everyday. But at the weekends, I really enjoy to see and hear the WW2 enthusiasts, flying their planes over my head while I`m working on my van.
This is an American fighter / trainer that cruises most weekends, it`s engine sounds is soo deep and rumbling, I always rush out and look up. But pictures taken into the sky never come out well, because everything is soo bright. So I took this one from the airport outdoor restraunt, where my gf and I enjoy to eat, because she is an airline stewardess and really digs old planes.
Just before New Year `09 we had a Stealth bomber circling Los Angeles and surrounding counties, flying in 200 mile diameter loops, and Very low, it freaked out me and my neigbours.... ( because we thought that another country or planet was attacking us..! and that this guy was defending us.... And could kill any alien in the sky....)
Days later, we found out that he was practicing for the New Year, Rose Day Parade and football game ( because it was off-course the year previous, and not as many people were able to see it)
Man .... > we were so relieved....
This monster was SOO Low over our street.... but SOO silent .... what an awesome sight.... !
Now for another radical picture.... > This is a 30 inch style of rim that are available out on the street right now.... Got 5k.. X 4 ?
I Welcome your comments......
