Fumes in the passenger compartment

...when I use the heater or a/c. Where do I start? What is the likely culprit? exhaust manifold/gasket?
New owner of a 1996 Astro named "Plain Jane" - stock right now - with 200,000 miles on it and running like a champ

exhaust and not gas fumes,,,correct ?

I'd check where the header and Y-pipe connect first. I've had to re-seat this connection on a couple vans.
