1995 - 1999 swap?

Post by robertg »

i was at work yesterday only to see another astro van bite the dust as an insurance total....

it's a 99 astro rwd conversion. it belongs to a customer of ours and was hit in the front. it's cleaner looking than my 2000, and only has 112k miles on it. i have to really look over the front end yet to see how badly it's damaged, but i got to thinking......

our 95 astro is pretty rough, but has a decent body still. depending on how smashed up the 99 is, why couldn't i pull the subframe from the 95 and put onto the 99 and use the related sheet metal from the 95?

i'm probably rambling a bit here... it will even depend on being able to get the van in the first place.

While anything is possible, the computer systems are completely different between the two.

How bad was the '99 hit? Is the engine in it still good?

If it was me looking to fix the '99, I'd want to swap as little as possible, hopefully just using the needed sheet metal. If the subframe on the '99 is bent I'd see about swapping the subframe, but not the drive train.
