Shocks - KYB MonoMax

Just installed four KYB MonoMax Heavy Duty Gas shocks on my 2003 Astro AWD with a GTVR conversion. This alleviated all body roll and the van does not move in high winds, around corners nor when semitrucks pass me... I took the van from Sun Valley, Idaho to the Targhee Music Festival in Alta, Wy. - dirt roads, mountain roads and on the flats at 85 mph - no problems. I tried this before new tires and sway bars - lucky that it worked because it is the least expensive way to go. This is just FYI for those who have had body roll on your Astro/Safari.

Good to know. I gotta do the same thing soon, I'm getting seasick. Why KYB and not Bilstein? Thanks, Jim

how about the ride quality on normal roads? ride like a harsh lumber wagon or nice?
I was thinking about new shocks for the 99 and was considering Rancho (without lift) just because they were firm on roads yet soft over bumps (only been in one vehicle with them, i was impressed) .. or, do i stick with the ol' standby, monroe sensatracs?

I don't know about the KYB MonoMax. I know the Monro air shocks on the back and KYB Gas-a-justs on the front, the ride better, but not as smooth as I would like.

KYB monomax shocks are about half the price of Bilstiens. The KYB's are very good shocks. I have the monomax shocks on one of my Jeeps. I have heavy duty Bilstiens on my Astro.
Similar to "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", ride quality on shocks is a very subjective thing. I've been told that Bilsteins had a harsh ride, but in my experience I haven't found that to be the case. But then I'm of the opinion that if your looking for a sofa on wheels, get a big old caddy and boat on down the road.

Thanks kings-x59. I'll have to save for the Bilsteins then. Maybe this Spring. Had 2 Lincoln Towncars in the past, and also had a 79 Jeep CJ5. In a truck, I want a truck like ride. Thanks Again, Jim.
