Don't know the procedure of removing a tranny, but make sure you use a transmission jack (or so I've heard)

Having just completed a trans/tc swap a month ago I will attest to the joys of a tranny jack. I didn't have one. My brother let me use a lift at his shop. I asked "where's the tranny jack?" He said "I gave it to the guy that does all my tranny work." So all by myself I managed the job with a floor jack and an extra couple of ups and downs with the lift. Labor book says nine hours for awd trans swap. It took me twelve.

No worries! Its been a long time with this post! I actually think I have a flexplate issue with my new van so may have to deal with the tranny swap all over again!! I had Trouble's Tranny out 3 times due to the first one failing (the original 2009 post) and two TC's. I really don't want to do this, but my ego doesnt wanna pay someone!! I just wish I could confirm flexplate before tearing into it!
Mountain life sports are too fun this time of year here in Truckee, CA, so I may pay someone if its under $500. 8-[

You find someone who will do that job for $500.00 you jump on it. The labor rate at my bro's shop is $105 hr. getting it done for five is pretty much half price and you don't get dirty. You're right tho, there's something about doing it yourself

I'm retiring from tranny swaps! :-$ That sounds pretty funny actually.
A local mechanic will do it for $600 labor including freeze plugs and rear main (no leaks but might as well). I just need to bring him the parts. I'll be putting a heavy duty flex plate in so all said and done probably around $750. Still tempted to do it myself... but too much to do instead!
