4:10 rear finally installed!!

Post by Logan »

I've been doing a lot of towing with my v8 van so I decided to junk the mono leafs and install some steel ones. While I was at it I thought I would swap in the 4.10 rear from blue light before i ship it off to the junk yard!

How is the performance with the new gearing?

I`m sure that you haven`t towed yet, but how was the seat of your pants improvement? I`m curious....

HOLY COW!! It's AWESOME!! I haven't gotten to tow anything but it pulls like a freight train now! Going from 3:08 to 4:10 is a night and day difference. I carry about 1200 lbs of gear and tools all the time so I'm excited to empty it out one day and really get on it.

Awesome!! I found the sticky!!! So I just pulled the DRAC board thingy out of Blue Light and plugged it into my V8. The Speedo is now working correctly!!! I love ASV!!!

I gotta find myself a good 3.75 or 4.10 rear. I don't have the tools or experience to install new gears myself, so I figured getting a who assembly with the better gearing would be the easiest approach, but the prices around here from the wreckers are almost as much a getting new gears installed by a shop ($700-800) that and they have no 4.10s at all.

I'm the same way, I don't know how to install new gears or anything. I was really trying to find a complete G80 rearend but no on has those either. I think it's just dumb luck that my 95 came from the factory with the 4:10's.

At this point I just keep looking. I should probably be more diligent in checking out the cheap Astrofaris listed on kijiji or craigslist to find one what the rear I want. Then part out the rest.

I went to our local pick and pull junkyard and there were some "Cash for Clunkers" Safastros there. That's where I got my steel springs. Might be a chance of finding more of a variety now that those cars are starting to get junked. :bounce:

I keep watching. I missed a guy parting out a '98. I have no idea what the gearing was in it, but by the time I saw the ad, the van was gone. I gotta keep an eye out more regularly.

Dang another 4.11 upgrade.
I am really curious about the feel. I have yet to drive TLow's 4.11 compared to my 3.73. Just not sure how much more I will get?
