We bought a VERY VERY BIG van :-)

Post by Mr Bean »

Ok...so we've had the Astro for about 3 months now...and just felt like we needed more room...you know. Just a little tight in the van. So we upgraded:

Gonna make a parking space in the back for the Astro? :D That would be cool. If you are basically making a camper out of it, we can move it to the camping/out doors section. Please keep the pics coming. This is going to be a neat build.
Current rides:
2013 Toyota Tundra DC 4x4
2008 Dodge Nitro 4x4
2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S Special Edition

1995 Astro 2WD conversion 4.11 posi, shift kit, DHC rock rails - sold to Skippy
1998 Astro 4x4 D44, D60, NP231, full hydraulic system with 9k# Milemarker winch and snow plow - sold to Lockdoc
2003 Astro AWD all stock - traded for a 3/4 ton truck

Not exactly a camper...rather a home away from home. Camping/Outdoor section might be good? Whatever you admins think best...I'm easy :) In any case, we'll for sure post pics if peeps are interested. was planning on the astro being a toady...but not sure the AWD system can handle being towed on all fours?? Maybe someone can help with this...also, a BIG question is when the ignition is off, does the astro register mileage on the odometer?

The AWD Astro can NOT be towed with all wheels on the ground. If you disconnect the front or rear driveshaft, you could tow it with that end on the ground.

I recall seeing an AWD equipped with dual drive shafts disconnects. God know where I can find it again.

Could a 2 speed transfer case with neutral be flat towed?

Remco says with a lube pump the AWD can be flat towed.

A NP231 transfer case can be selected for neutral and flat towed. The t-case lube pump is in the rear drive shaft output so as long as the rear tires are turning it is flowing fluid.

Let's see...$850 plus installation for the lube pump, $430 for a base plate and $745 for a tow bar (the standard 5,000 # bar won't be enough)...you could buy a nice used trailer and not have to worry about damaging your Astro or Safari at all!
