I finished the swap a while back, but ran into tuning problems, valve lash problems and time problems. I need to park the 'stro while I got work/life stuff taken care of.
But now the van's BACK at the top of the list...no doubt I'll be on here quite a bit, asking questions and generally getting back into the "astro thing"

I did a search of your V8 swap thread and the last thing I found was a valve lash issue that you where taking to the shop.In this one you are talking about a cam change.Could you please fill in the blanks between then and now for me??.
Thank You,
Gary

Well..lets see...
I got the van running ok...not great, but ok. 3-4 weeks later, it started making valve noise. I reset the lash...that worked for about a week..did it again. Few weeks later, I had a friend do it. THAT lasted about 3-4 weeks.
Got sick of taking it apart and life caught up with me, so I parked it.
While it was parked (about 2 years maybe?) I tried to do some more studying and talked to everyone I could think of and came up with the following possibilities.
1.) "pulling out" of the head studs, thus loosening the rockers, thus causing the lash to be off
2.) The need for "valve guides" Or, the rockers twisiting sideways on the valve
3.) The cam not suitable for computer control (another issue)
All in all, I decided to let it to to a (hopefully) good mechy take it and straighten it out.
So I wait now.
Lesson learned?
When someone one HERE tells you to just buy a complete crate motor and concentrate on the swap..unless yer a bitchin mechanic..LISTEN TO THEM!

What springs, what cam and what lifters? You could also have some form of a coil bind issue causing the studs to pull or too much lift. Screw ins and/or different valvetrain could help you out with that.

All that's in a folder IN the van. The van's at the shop now. If "coil bind" means that the boss the studs press into need to be shaved, that's one of the things we're looking into once the heads are exposed.
I'm not much on engine/head building, so I have to wait and see what's found/said at the shop. I'll post as soon as I hear something.

By coil bind I mean that when the rocker pushes down on the valve it does so far enough that the spring will not compress any more, and that causes it to try and pull the stud. When you use certain springs you are only supposed to use up to a certain lift with them. Did you use high ratio rockers (1.6+) as well?
