Gauge Cluster Interchange

Quick question...
Are all of the "hocky stick" clusters interchangable??
Here is why I ask: (not so quick, lol) 1
I noticed that the temp gauge was missing a needle on my analog 1989 cluster, and I don't have an extra one, unbelievable, I know. The tripometer doesn't work either, so I figure I'll replace the whole thing.
I saw a 1991 analog cluster and liked how it looked, and wondered if it would work.
On a related note:
All of the digital clusters appear to interchange. I could be wrong, but it appears that way.
I have a 1991 digital cluster and the rest of the van for that matter. I wanted to swap it into my 1989, but it wasn't plug and play, and I decided it wasn't worth all of that soldering if the plugs and all the wires had to be changed. I might do it if it is color for color, maybe I should check it out.
Astro clusters are all over Ebay from $20-$250, so finding one isn't a problem, but it seems 1989 has an exclusive to that year cluster. I wonder what makes it 1989 only, maybe the color?
I actually like the newer clusters, like my 1994 has, but they won't fit in the 1989 dash.
I know that the 1985-1988 are mechanical, so no dice there. The 1986 one I had only had a speedo and fuel gauge.
