Hi. I just wanted to join the forum to ask a quick question. I have a 1997 Chevy Astro. Just yesterday it started. When i first pull away it is extremely sluggish then sort of goes back to normal once you pull alway. The virtually no power on pull away The check engine light is on which I know it the O2 Sensor. What nightmare and expensive cost will this be any ideas would be great. It's a 4.3 Vortec...
I thinks its a scrapper.

When was is last tuned up (plugs, wires, cap and rotor)? Any other symptoms? Just being sluggish does not mean some expensive fix nor that the van is a scrapper. Start reading and you will find a lot of people on this site running vans from the '80s. I have a '97 and would not consider scrapping it at this point even with something expensive as buying something else that is newer would probably be more expensive.

Ok. So not the O2. Possible spark plugs. Well I going to try and sell it on Monday and buy a corolla it been a great van. it's been heavy fixed before $4,000 worth of new parts. It's's got new everything. when I brought works perfect. Not a single oil leak. Nothing. Oil changes every 5K. I just want out of it. There is only O2 sensor and leaking tires. because there snows on the back. Thats all that wrong with and the sluggish problem. I was going to stick on Kijij But I can't like this of course. So I was going to trade as is and see what I can get for it. Thanks. I'm London Ontario. Not far from you.

Well I took into a dealer they offer 400 bucks for it. Now way I'm selling it for that. it only slushes up and until 10 KPH. then it back to normal. It feels dangerous. The engine is very sweet. It just has no power. So I'm going to take and get it fixed.

Essexman,
Do you have an aftermarket alarm installed?
Can you tell if on start, it is in 1st gear? Does it ALWAYS pull slow and sluggish from the start no matter if the engine cold or hot?
Drive it to me and I would give you $500
... should cover the cost for the wheels.

I don't think you would. LOL. The wheels have rusted. They were trim clad 21 mths ago. It is the gearbox. I've Just found out. Only 3rd and 4th works. So It's a scrap yard or auction. I'm not sure which.

I just had my slushbox re-manned. Runs like a dream now. Of course, my wallet is in intensive care and it will be a while until it's chugging away on all 8 cylinders.
