Interior lights

This seems silly but recently in the evening I opened the back and the interior lights didn't come on. I can't remember if they do or not nor could any other family member. So, should the interior lights come on when the back is opened? We decided that we didn't remember because we usually get out of the van first and then open the back so the lights would be on already. Anyway, I anxiously await somebody illuminating me ( :) ) on this. 8-[

They do when I open the dutch doors on the rear of my '97.

They do on the barn doors on my 89 IF the dash switch is in the DOORS position.

Same with my '91 shorty, they come on when the doors are opened. You should be able to see a door jam switch somewhere along the pillar.

Likewise on the Dutch door liftgate. The switch is in the end of the gas piston. On mine, it's on the left one. But the wires to my unit broke, so I got a lo-profile switch and installed it in the AC duct on the left end. The only problem I have is remembering to turn off the lights when I'm done.
