156K Front Brake Rebuild – PARTS?

New rotors, new truck calipers, new truck disc pads, clean and repack wheel bearings, new hub seals. DONE. If the steering and suspension are fine don't touch them.

I agree with Smilie here, and fit high quality Brembo rotors along with high quality brake pads, because this combo will give you much better braking, with no fade, and will last for many K miles. I have this, along with 11inch rear drums and hydro-boost on my older `86 V8 Astro that tows 2k lbs (with no trailer brakes) and will stop my whole van and trailer on a dime.

I also tow my buddies `69 Camaro to the dragstrip with no braking problems.

SoCalli, I wish I could go with Brembo's, they are far too expensive.

I thought more about my braking and I've been happy with it and it seems easier to stick with stock. I'm leaving on a long trip in 6 days and didn't want to run into any problems with the truck brake upgrade. So as it turns out, I stuck with what I had, but all new. I ordered a bunch of parts due here is a day or two.

New:
rotors, the best they had, lifetime warranty, $49
pads, some brand new compound, lifetime warranty, $42
wheel bearings, $19
calipers, since they were so cheap, $25

Total: $230

I understand, but if you are running the extra power of a V8 while towing a racecar.... brake upgrades are recommended.

I just got back from my trip, 900 miles round trip SoCal to Yosemite. The brakes worked super great through the mountains, absolutely no shudder. My passenger wheel seems to have some oil spinning out from the hubcap so maybe my bearing grease is leaking a bit. I'll check the cap to be sure it's fitted snug. Thanks again for your suggestions and sounding boards!
