Factory tinted rear windows?

Post by Astroblaster »

I have an 89 safari. Its got the factory tinted side windows but the rear pop out barn door windows are not. Was the tinted barn door windows another option to go along with the side windows? I plan on getting the rear windows tinted but if the factory did offer tinted windows I might go ahead to the "wanted" section to see if anybody has them. Thanks

you can get factory tinted rear windows. I would suggest going to the auto wrecker and see if you can pull a set from there. Any year with barn doors will fit as they didn't change the doors till it went to the dutch doors. You can easily remove the windows by drilling out the rivets on the top hinge and just popping the pin out on the bottom of the window and leave the catch behind. This is easier than trying to unscrew the hinges from the glass. I tried this at the wreckers and stripped the screw heads. You will just need to get some new rivets and bang the new glass into the holes left from drilling out your stock windows.
