Fuel Tank Capacity - How To Tell?

89 Astro, 4.3z...

17 or 27 gallons?
I know some here have said they have the 27 gal but it really only accepts about 24. Is there some kind of way to tell by looking at the tank? Mine has accepted 19 gallons. Does that pretty much verify that it's the larger 27 gal tank and not the 17 gal version?

If it took 24, then it is what is called a 27. The 17 gallon tanks are rare, and were only used until 1989, IIRC. I've only seen one that I can think of, and it was on a 1986 that had a 5 speed. Much smaller tank, easier to take out.
