Rear View Mirror

Post by stevieb »

OK this may be the stupid question of the day but.... My rear view mirror fell off the windshield. Now its in one piece in my hand, and I know the aluminum plate gets glued to the windshield and the mirror attaches to it with a set screw..but... I cant seem to get the pieces apart to get to the set screw. It looks like there is a cover of some sort, but it will not budge... any help is much appreciated.
Thanks...

Most auto glass facilities will re-mount the inside mirror for little or no money. Let them do it and it'll be a longer lasting remount than the DIY package. I did the DIY route twice. The third time it happened, I took it to a professional. So far, it's lasted longer than the DIY.

I had mine glued back on at speedy for free and it lasted for years after that. Plus the guy was commenting when he was doing it that you have to push so hard on the glass that if there is a chip you might blow the window out.

90% of the trick is getting the glass (and the mount) perfectly clean. I use a razorblade and acetone. The other part is pushing really hard for a couple of minutes.

Mine fell off the other day when it was really hot. I only used it to look at the kids, so now that the seats are out of the beater, I don't even miss it.
