transmission fitting question

i found a leaking transmission fitting on my 95, and don't think it will come out of the radiator. had a hard time with it when i did the transmission lines a couple of years ago.

i have a spare external cooler (factory 99+ chevy silverado tow package), and plenty of new style quick disconnect lines that i've acquired from work (warranty failures)

i can cobble up the lines, i just need to know if i bypass the in-tank transmission cooler and install the external silverado cooler, do i need to plug the fittings in the radiator?

i'm not worried about the size of the cooler, as i don't tow with the 95.

thanks!

Short answer ...no

Longer answer ...

If you can get the old fittings out you could just plug them or let the oil drain out of the oem cooler, but once the oil is out you don't have to plug up the old fittings. Unless you happened to spring a leak in the coolant lines that run thru the oem tranny cooler then the oem cooler would partially fill with coolant then drain out the bottom if those fittings had not been plugged. Hope that makes sense

it does make sense, zam.

i'm going to the pull a part junk yard in the morning to try and fish me out a radiator. the lower fitting is actually seized into the radiator, and i don't feel like messing with it.

i might try and pick up a couple more goodies too. we'll see what i find!
