rear window defrost/wipers

Post by markmitchinnh »

Just wondering if the Astro/Safari lines ever came with rear window defrost? Also has anyone installed an aftermarket defroster. (or wipers possibly from another vehicle?)
Recently bought a 1989 Astro RS from Florida. Replaced stock engine witha 1997 5.7 vortec with TBI and replaced transmission with rebuilt 700R4 with mild shift kit.

My 97 has both, factory.

There are aftermarket electric window defrosters that you can apply to the window. They're peel-n-stick, although I doubt there are any that wide.

As for the wipers, it could be done, with some exceptions.

Sweep limit of 90º
Coordinating the sweeps so it doesn't look afflicted
Wiring the wipers
Last but not least... Window Spritzer

They were never offered on the barn doors. For wipers, you could look into the 90 degree sweep ones used on Cushman Trucksters. These are 12V and the wiring is simple, + and - only.

Well my girlfriend has a Jeep Cherokee and it has one wiper on the rear window that looks like it may work but with a small wiper. As for the spritzer that would be easy, get them from any vehicle that has them mounted on the hood. Then use the pump and bottle from the same Jeep Cherokee times two wired to the same push button. Of course this is just ideas as my van is locked in a barn till snow is gone.
