I've never relied on the automatic self adjusters on rear breaks. Set them up so there is an ever so slightly drag on the breaks when you spin the drum.
The self adjusters are suppose to adjust when you back up and apply the breaks. Also make sure they are not seized up.

i had the issue once when in accidentally put the adjusting latch upside down. Tried to get them to adjust and then did a face palm when i opened it back up and figured it out.
Good luck..

If you use the parking brake regularly, that will keep them adjusted too.

Until the adjuster corrodes a bit and gets sticky.
My old van had a knockout hole that wasn't knocked out, to access the adjuster. I knocked it out, got the proper rubber plug for it, and now can adjust from the back with a screwdriver. I was surprised that the knockout wasn't knocked out! I put in new adjusters too when i did the brakes.

I always put never-seize on the adjusters...never had one corrode so it wouldn't spin by hand.

Good tip, Thanks.
I had one brake hardware kit that musta been made in China.
It had the worst excuse for adjusters I've ever seen. I refused ti use them and got others instead.
I think they would have malfunctioned before I even got the drum back on, lol.
